Renovation update

Hi everyone! I know posting has been scarce around here lately (except for the occasional random – read “uninteresting” – thoughts and Friday videos), so I thought I’d drop by to say hi and give you an update on the renovation projects. I have a three page to-do list, but here are a few major projects we are working on. I’m doing a million other smaller things too, but not really worth a post. Maybe I’ll write a summary post before leaving for France so that you can enjoy some house renovation porn while I’ll be away :-) . You can also check out my flickr stream for more pictures.

We now have a ceiling in my future office (1st floor). The plastering isn’t done yet though. I’m working one zone at a time to make sure the job is done correctly. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so the plastering/sanding part is taking longer.

As you know, we also remodeled our tiny bedroom closet. Mission accomplished.

We’re also working on the vestibule. I’m hoping everything will be done by the end of the week.

Closet (part 3)

When we moved into our house 2 years ago, we used the closet as is and never got around to remodeling it to suit our needs. I hated everything about it: the pastel yellow chosen by the previous owner, the configuration (or lack thereof), the poor use of space. The only thing I did to delude myself into thinking that it wasn’t so bad was use contact paper for the old shelf.

Fast forward two years and I finally decided to tackle the closet project. Check out the final result:

The total cost for our closet system was about 330 canadian dollars, which is pretty good compared to what I would have paid if I had decided to go with my original idea (custom closet from California Closets, but I didn’t want to shell out 3 grands for a closet — I’d rather spend the money on my vacay in France in September).

My advice: plan, don’t skimp on the prep work, take advantage of vertical space, and edit (keep only the clothes you really love and use, everything else is just clutter). An organized closet makes a world of difference (that’s the organizing freak in me speaking up ha!)

Another project down. A few more to go, and then I’m off to France. Yay!

So… It’s now almost a week later, and the closet remodeling isn’t finished yet. Lots of prep work (plastering/sanding), priming and painting (2 coats) — plus some days, it was so hot and humid that all I wanted to do was veg out in front of the fan.

The good news is the painting part is done, and we’re in the process of installing the Configurations Deluxe Closet Kit by Rubbermaid (in Titanium). Our closet will be a bit like the one below (wardrobe not included – I’m not really into beige and green outfits ha!).

It’s taking longer than anticipated because our closet is tiny and I want a particular configuration that requires more customization (ie cutting some shelves to length – yeah, it seems I like it when things are complicated). The whole thing is a real pain in the a**, and I’m not the patient kind (blame it on the Internet, which got me used to instant gratification hahaha).

Happy Friday!
