Wardrobe
I love neutrals with a pop of color. Obviously. I used to wear all black (I guess I got lazy when I figured out that all black suits me well ha!) but I’ve been drawn to black and nude/gold/beige combination in recent years (which is why I’m totally, absolutely, positively in love with professional organizer Laura Cattano’s wardrobe).
My favorite online store right now is Obakki (so many gorgeous items). I’m still experimenting (but always with a focus on quality vs quantity). I like the idea that my style is evolving and that I’m a work in progress. After all, it’s the journey that counts, not the destination, right?

Just discovered your blog through The Simple Poppy. Love your idea of neutrals with a pop of color. Never thought of it as I’m not into accessorizing.Too much shopping for me. I like to keep things simple and have everything go together. Like you, I love clean designs. I’m at home so I don’t wear suits. I usually wear a solid color top with a neutral color bottom. I don’t necessarily want to wear the same color (top/bottom) because even though you would think black goes with black and so on with other neutrals, it rarely is the case. Do you have any ideas that would be simple and yet reflect your idea of neutrals with a pop of color?
On another topic, I found it interesting that on your blog info, it says that your home is in Mtl because I’m originally from Mtl, although I don’t live there anymore.
Hope you’ll have time to answer my question,
Thanks
Bonjour Pascale! Thanks for your comment and I hope my reply will be helpful. I’m not really into accessorizing either (though sometimes it’s fun to add a ring or a bangle here and there). The perfect outfit for me would be a dress or a top and bottom in a neutral color (like this: https://shop.obakki.com/ca/women/sale/knit-legging.html) paired with a cardigan or a pashmina shawl in a cute solid color. Or a neutral color bottom and cardigan paired with a solid color top. One of my favorite outfit is actually a off-white chino with a minty green v-neck t-shirt paired with neutral colored sandals. (Oh, and by “neutral”, I mean light green, pale yellow, baby blues as well… which are basically white with a tiny bit of color).
Decor-wise, here’s my interpretation of this (in our “chambre d’amis): http://www.fabulissime.com/?p=7911
Hope this helps! :)
Bonjour Hasina,
Thank you for answering my questions so quickly. I love the idea of the pashmina. I have 3 at home and I only use them as scarves with my coats. It never occurred to me to pair them with an outfit. What a great idea! I had thought about the cardigan, but because I’m very short (5 foot tall) and slender, I often have trouble finding cardigans that aren’t made for people with longer torsos. Nevertheless, these are great ideas. Cardigans and pashminas complete a look. Thanks for all the great pictures and links. Love your guest bedroom. WOW! I’d love to have your talent for creating such a minimalist decor. I might use some of your ideas as an inspiration for a future home. I have another question: How do you simplify hadbags and shoes/sandals? I’d love to be able to have only one or two handbags/pairs of shoes/sandals and still look put together?
BTW, do you speak French?
Bonne soirée!
Bonjour Pascale! Yes, I speak French, it’s my native language actually :) Thanks for your lovely comments. So about simplifying handbags and shoes…. I’m really not in a position to give you advice because I’m kind of obsessed with bags and shoes haha. It’s my guilty pleasure, although I managed to curb my spending enthusiasm ;) But I’d say, get multi-occasion items that are casual enough for day and cute enough for night – it’s a nice guideline to avoid ending up with 20 pairs of evening shoes and 0 pair of comfy shoes for your daily errands :). Let the shape, size, material and color guide your choice. Hope this helps!
Bonjour Hasina,
Hasina, you’ve seen my dressing room so you know that I am in no way minimal with my clothes! However, the idea of having less and never having to spend hours figuring out ‘what to wear’ is SO appealing. I got credit card shock again this morning (will I ever learn?) and so this weekend I’m taking all my credit cards out of my wallet, going through my masses of clothes, and getting back to basics. Of course, my basics will look nothing like minimalist basics, but it will be a big change to me. My goal is to get rid of everything that doesn’t make me feel fabulous, and not buy anything else until I get pregnant or ruin a staple (like my black boots or favorite flip flops)….wish me luck!
Hi Sara! Good luck :) It always seems challenging in the beginning but it will quickly make you life easier :)
thanks for the shout out! your wardrobe is looking pretty good in the pics ;O)
pascale, i’m just over 5′ and i love cardigans and have a number of them. yes for those of us who happen to be the perfect height it can be tricky. though not all of them work, i’ve found great ones at jcrew, club monaco, and various designers at barneys nyc.
i also believe in a less is more when it comes to the wardrobe but at the same time i have a ton of belts (18 i think) and 8 or 9 evening clutches. i say eliminate what you don’t love so you have room for the things you do. you don’t have be completely 100% minimalistic in every single thing you do. but the overall idea is a good one and one i embrace. oh, and about 7 umbrellas….
Hi Laura! I agree, “eliminate what you don’t love so you have room for the things you do”, great advice!
